This past weekend was another wild race series filled with lots of crashes, course holds, weather, good turns, very slow turns, and more!
A couple highlights were scoring points in the first downhill race(!), having SO many family and friends there to cheer us on, my teammate Jackie Wiles getting 2nd in the downhill!!!!, and feeling very confident and happy about where my skiing is at right now.
Some lows were tons of crashes and season ending injuries throughout the weekend which led to very long course holds and pretty exhausting days, me being unbelievably slow at the gliding turns at the bottom of the course in the downhill and not really understanding why, another super-g dnf :(, and feeling conflicted about all the emotions I’m feeling.
On another note, Cortina is unbelievably beautiful and reminded me every day of how incredibly lucky I am to be pursuing my ski racing dream.
I read the above quote this morning from Simone Biles and it really resonated with me. It’s so cliche to say ‘enjoy the journey not the destination’, but sometimes things are cliche and over used for a reason. I loved how Simone put her own spin on this very common idiom by reminding us to be proud of ourselves for every step. I think this resonated so much with me because I derive my confidence and happiness from the work I put in on a daily basis. So the suggestion to ‘be proud of every step’ struck a chord with me more profoundly than just ‘enjoying the process’. And luckily I am very proud of the work I’m putting in and hoping (but not depending) on making more steps in the right direction to be even more proud of!
Go Tric!!!
